Being a consultant of any kind can be an extremely rewarding career, especially if you have the right tools. Below are 3 must have items that every consultant should have in their tool kit (or briefcase).
$41.99, Uniform City
Item #1: Sturdy Bag – This is most important because obviously a sturdy bag is needed to carry all of the other items on this list. When choosing a bag for the kit, it is a great idea to make sure the item is stain and water resistant, has plenty of room with multiple pockets and a big zippered section, is light weight and comfortable to carry, has multiple straps for easier carrying, and a section to put a laptop or netbook.
$19.70, Walmart
Item #2: Professional Binder – A professional looking binder is a wonderful place to keep any presentation folders, documents for clients, documents needed for any projects, and other office supplies (like pens, business cards, sticky notes, correction paper, notepad, company literature, etc.). Getting a binder with three rings and the ability to zip close is a great way to ensure all of the documents in the binder stay in place.
Prices Vary, Stores Vary
Item #3: Office Supplies –Miniature or travel sized Items like pens, highlighters, sharpies, tape, stapler and staples, three-hole punch, stapler remover, ruler, and a calculator, are all essential items for a consultant, mainly because not all clients have these items readily available, and also because it makes the consultant look organized and prepared, both important traits for this industry. Look for a stylish pencil case, or something similar to keep the above items in, not only will it keep the kit organized, but it also allows for easy access to all of the items.
